What events in history do you know that not many people know?

This painting of a young woman breastfeeding an old man in prison sold for 30 million euros. The painting may look distorted but the story behind it is from historical records.
During the reign of Louis XIV in France, the poor man was "starved to death" for stealing a loaf of bread. The woman was his only daughter and the only visitor to his cell. He was allowed to visit her every day but was searched so thoroughly that no food was taken inside.
When after 4 months the man was still alive without losing any weight, the authorities became confused and started spying on him in the cell and to their utter surprise he was breastfeeding his father with a full share of his baby's milk. The judges then realized the woman's compassion and love for her father, forgave the father and released him.
This piece of history brings into focus how deep a woman's empathy is in our daily lives that men often overlook
